New York North Judging Directors
Karen Gurnett
Gymnastics has been a part of my life since I was five years old, and it continues to be a driving force behind my passion for the sport. Both of my daughters have followed in my footsteps—one as a Division 1 collegiate gymnast and the other as a Level 9 athlete—making gymnastics a true family tradition.
I’ve been involved with the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges (NAWGJ) since 2009, serving as a judge for numerous competitions over the years. In 2014, I joined the NAWGJ board as Assistant Clinic Coordinator, and most recently, I’ve had the honor of overseeing the Judges Cup. Currently, I serve as the State Judging Director, a role that allows me to further contribute to the development of judges and the sport at a state level.
As the State Judging Director for NAWGJ-NYN, my goal is to expand our membership by actively recruiting and engaging passionate officials while fostering a cohesive and supportive community. All while cultivating a collaborative environment where experienced and new members can share knowledge, build strong professional relationships, and work together towards excellence in judging.

I didn’t know that my gymnastic life, starting when I was 6 years old, would lead me into a life time program of competition, photography action model, circus performer, women’s gymnastics coach, gymnastic judge for both women and
men, and State board member for the past 20+ years. I plan to bring to membership valuable clinics providing insight, clarity, and knowledge for ourposition as gymnastic judges.

I’m excited to be a part of the NAWGJ Board as Secretary, and am thankful for all of your support. As your Secretary, not only will I be sending you minutes of our Board Meetings, but I will also be publishing a Newsletter about three times a year; fall, winter and spring. Please feel free to send me any news items you may be aware of to share in the newsletter. For example, any milestone you may reach in your judging career, a special event that is happening, or information about a local athlete that has achieved some honor, or has been accepted to college.
Rules Liaison
Alicia Goode
I am honored to be on the NAWGJ NYN Board! I look forward to serving the NAWGJ NYN membership and the entire NYN gymnastics community. I was a gymnast at the University of Massachusetts where my team won a national championship, coached for seventeen years at the collegiate level and have been judging for forty-nine years. As such, I have seen our beautiful sport change and develop over the years. As a National-rated judge, I continually strive to develop and strengthen my own judging capabilities and to maintain the principles of fairness and accuracy in my judging. This position of Rules Liaison feels like a natural fit for me. I feel that the flow of information from judge-to-coach, judge-to-judge, and coach-to-judge is an important part of the ongoing learning process for all of us and this position would strengthen the bond
that ties all parties to educating ourselves to provide the best experience for the athletes. In this position of Rules Liaison, I hope to serve as the “gatherer of questions”, research the answers, confirm those answers with the appropriate authorities and then disseminate the answers and clarifications to the judging and coaching community. This exchange of information would help to ensure that we are all
“on the same page”.

Through the years I have worn nearly every gymnastics hat. I have been a gymnast, a
parent of 5 competitive gymnasts, a coach, a meet director, a team program
administrator, and a member of IL NAWGJ board as their education chair and test
administrator. I continue to be active in gymnastics as a judge (since 1985). While living in Illinois, I was a teacher for 26 years (physical education and music). After moving to
New York, I was employed as the business manager and then administrative director of
a nonprofit organization for 16 years before retiring. All of these life experiences, plus
my passion for the sport of gymnastics and my desire to “give back” makes me enthusiastically embrace the job as your Assignor.
My husband (53 years), Don, and I enjoy traveling, biking and being outdoors as much
as possible. We also are active volunteers for our local food bank and Habitat for
Humanity. Music is also a passion for me. I sing competitively in an acppella women’s
chorus and quartet, and I am a musician and cantor in my church.

Corrine Mayer
I’ve been a member of the National Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges (NAWGJ) for 28 years, bringing a deep passion for the sport to every competition. I earned both my BS and MS from SUNY Cortland and spent 30 rewarding years teaching Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education in the public school system. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching several sports, including gymnastics, volleyball, track, lacrosse, and competitive cheer. My experience as an educator and coach has shaped my approach as a judge, and I’m proud to continue contributing to the gymnastics community in this role.
Judges Cup Coordinator
Jean Pecoraro
As a new member of the NAWGJ-NYN Board, I am excited to contribute to the continued growth and success of our judging community. My primary goal is to ensure that our Judges Cup is safe, enjoyable, and financially successful. I hope all gymnasts, coaches and judges have a positive experience, and that NAWGJ generates the resources needed to continue supporting and educating our judges.
Having been a part of the Judges Cup for the past two years, I have gained valuable insights and look forward to applying those as we work to expand registrations. I am committed to making this event even more successful, ensuring it continues to serve as a platform for growth and development within our sport.
